On January 5, 1920, the New York Yankees announced the purchase of Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Sox. Original Los Angeles Times article, found via @LATDailyMirror, gives more details. Babe Ruth had been spending the winter in Los Angeles and was golfing at Griffith Park when he learned he had been traded (info from “The Big Bam: The Life and Times of Babe Ruth”). Seems like this photo (from the Los Angeles Public Library photo archive) needs a good caption. Any takers? :)
