Just one more week to see exhibit of Helen Lukens Gaut photography at Pasadena Museum of History. Here is a photo of Helen Gaut as well as her photo of her father, Theodore Lukens (standing on the right) and friend on top of Mount San Jacinto. Gaut, early adopter of the automobile,  bought herself a Ford roadster and was first woman to drive the Mt. Wilson toll road up and back. For more on Gaut, see Helen Lukens Gaut, Chronicler of Bungalows.

Theodore Lukens was conservationist, friend of John Muir and developer of pioneer tree nursery at Henniger Flats in the San Gabriel Mountains. Mt. Lukens named in his honor. For more on Lukens/Muir friendship see John Muir, A Naturalist in Southern California by Elizabeth Pomeroy. [These photos come from the Pasadena Museum of History, which are available online through Pasadena Digital History’s collection on Flickr.]
