These are the winners of first Mt. Wilson Trail Race in 1908 as the 46th competition started this morning at 7:30am in Sierra Madre. Runners sprint up to Orchard Camp and back. In 1908, entrants ran all the way to the top of Mt. Wilson, rested 30 minutes and ran back down. The race, the second oldest trail race in the country, was held sporadically until the 1950s and revived in 1965. The original Gabrielino Indian trail was modernized by Benjamin D. Wilson’s Mexican and Indian workers in 1864. In 1889 Harvard telecope transported up the trail. For more history, visit OldRadio.com and the Mt. Wilson Historical Timeline.
