On a 1,000 mile trek through California in July 1975, Cesar Chavez and members of the United Farm Workers of America walk through Redondo Beach. The goal of the the 59-day trek through California was to publicize the state’s newly-passed Agricultural Labor Relations Act. The new law guaranteed farm workers the right to organize in collective bargaining units and to vote for the union they wanted to represent them. (More info in the United Farm Workers chronology). This photo, published on July 9, 1975, comes from “Changing Times: Los Angeles in Photographs, 1920-1990,” housed at UCLA.
