Los Angeles hosted its first Gay Pride Parade on June 28, 1970. The Christopher Street West pride parade, organized by Morris Kight and the Gay Liberation Front, commemorated the Stonewall Rebellion (which began on NYC’s Christopher Street on June 28, 1969.) In 2003, according to the Studio for Southern California History, the City of Los Angeles dedicated “Morris Kight Square” at the corner of Hollywood Boulevard and McCadden in Hollywood.
